On Sunday, May 31, I was utterly blessed to be in the presence of 36 beautiful and brave women as we gathered together to explore a Blossoming Ceremony/Retreat of movement, art, relaxation and ritual. One of our dancing divas that day was Brenda Clews. During the retreat Brenda wrote a poem entitled "Bramble Rose" which I am honoured to share with you below. Thank you, Brenda!

Bramble Rose

Petals edges
butterfly wings
blue powder.

Blossoming
from the hips.

Singing
hip-hop shaking
strutting
struggle with closed bud
of a cocoon.

Here to blossom.

A whole life
to unfurl.

Unexpected, that.

It never gets boring.

The unflown flying.

Petals in the wind, pink,
blue dusting to indigo.

This sun, this rain
never felt before.

Be the valley of women dancing.
Be the flowers, and the earth,
and the wind, and the moon.

Tattoo me on your skin.
Ink me in colours of the meadow,
a blossoming bramble
rose

As I dance the opulent
blossoming
of you.

Summer Solstice Ecstatic Dance for Women Saturday, June 20  2-4pm  $13

Come boogie and celebrate the return of summer with me! Perfect for the shy, the bold, the tired and the energized. There will be time to settle in, followed by an opening circle/ritual, then a long, delicious dj'ed set (soul, global funk, sacred chants, ambient, electronica, women's voices and more) designed to liberate your inner dancer. We'll end in a simple prayerful closing circle. No experience or pre-registration needed.  Come with friends.  Drop-In whenever.    

Dance Our Way Home (DOWH) Summer Drop-Ins Saturday, July 4-Aug.8  2-4pm   

Pre-reg for all 6 weeks for the price of 5  $125 

Drop-Ins: $25 (no pre-reg required) 

*1st Drop-In Session is FREE for newcomers (any summer session)

 

DOWH is a woman-only dance practice in a supportive, non-judgmental setting. Integrating freestyle dance/movement, relaxation, guided imagery and psycho-spiritual explorations. Every week will offer a different invitation to awaken the wisdom of your body, emotion, imagination and self expression for healing and change. You can expect great music, great company, great teachings and lots of fun and joy.

 

Pre-register for the whole series, or drop-in to any session with no registration needed. No experience needed. Only a willingness to move, and be moved.
